for the first time in ages.. a very elegantly dressed senior lady and a young chap.

but--it wasnt just having a leaflet thrust at me--it was a full blown "old style" presentation.

i stopped her going to far into it--by asking if they are jws--and told them i was an apostate.

@ Ding--i AM an apostate--and proud of it. I was called apostate at the KH meeting as they couldnt DF me as i had resigned years earlier. Thats their rules--go figure.

I stopped her going to far into it--by asking if they are JWs--and told them i was an apostate. But she still carried on regardless. I then told her i am a member of JWN--which meant nothing to her--and she asked what i was an apostate to !
There were several others in the street--i wonder if it was the CO visit ?

there was on older white-haired circuit overseer in houston around 1989 or 1990. last name started with a w i think.... not sure though.

even the most brain-dead robotic elders told me he was offensive.

we have had similar threads like this a few times.
2 names i have listed elsewhere--but no one has commented on them.
Both in the UK--in the 60's and 70's.
Graham Carmichael--a cheerful Scotsman who was partial to a drink or 10
Oliver Mc Donald--English with a very odd personality.
Does anyone else remember them ? (or was it all a bad dream ? )

i was brought up in it from age 10 by my mother. Got baptised age 14 along with my father--this was in 1962. Pioneered from age 16 to 21
Pioneers bought the magazines for a penny ( british pre decimal ) and sold them for 4 pennies .( 8 pence for both W and A )
Best way to "place" them was to build up a magazine "route"--regular customers who bought them each fortnight.
I was the magazines / territory servant for a couple of years.
quit the cult in 1971.

It was when I was in it.But pioneers got a discount….to make a profit on sales.

Reading this thread i keep seeing the name Alan Scott--i'm pretty sure he was the young overseer / special pio at the first cong i attended as a child---Hockley in Birmingham UK--about 1960.
He and another--Peter Hemming--went as missionary to north africa i think.

Dating in the KH-funny stories.

my 28y old nephew was dating a 'sister' from another congregation.

he recently bought his own home.

i stopped by there to drop off something.

i'll tell you my story-- its totally true--and no exaggeration.
Back to my late teens--i met my future wife at a circuit assembly--and we started dating straight away. After a few weeks we each started staying over at our parents houses.
Her father was the assistant congregation servant ( as was the case back then ) Her mother was a real holier than thou bitch. Both as two faced as it was possible to be.
At their congregation they shared the hall so had the midweek meetings on a friday evening. I started to visit on friday evenings--and stayed over at their house.
On the saturday morning a knock on my bedroom door woke me up--it was my girlfriend, in her dressing gown--carrying me a mug of coffee.
She promptly dropped her dressing gown--and slipped into bed with me--stark naked ! I was scared stiff! ( ahem ) "what about your mom and dad " i gasped--she replied--they've gone out shopping--they do most saturdays--and lunch somewhere--they will be gone for hours !
This happened most saturdays when i stayed over.
I guess her parents believed jehovah was watching so we didnt need an earthly chaperone.
as i said --totally true.
